We are excited to kick off this year’s Past Forward series with “Old is Gold”, featuring Singaporean artist and sign painter Charmaine Chen, presented in collaboration with local non-profit organisation, Art Outreach Singapore.
Now in its fourth edition, Past Forward continues Bank of Singapore’s commitment to spotlighting the rich heritage of Asian craftsmanship and supporting Singapore’s creative community.
With over a decade of experience in traditional sign painting and gold‑leaf gilding, Charmaine’s hand-painted motifs draw on Singapore’s disappearing visual language of streets, trades, and letterforms. Through archival references and new works, “Old is Gold” highlights the balance between preservation and progress, and celebrates the enduring appeal of traditional craft in contemporary life.
We invite you to experience “Old is Gold”, currently on display at Bank of Singapore Centre Lobby until 27 March 2026.
